DIY
Scrapbooking
An Interview
With Sandi Genovese
by Rebecca Ludens
I
recently had the opportunity to talk to Sandi Genovese, the Senior Vice
President and Creative Director at Ellison, about her upcoming series for the
DIY Network, Scrapbooking. This series is going to be an in-depth
resource for scrapbookers across the country as it focuses on the hottest new
products and the most exciting new techniques in the industry.
I asked Sandi what scrapbookers can expect to see featured on the show. She replied that each of the 65 half-hour long episodes will focus on a recurring theme such as journaling or cropping, or will be product driven with an emphasis on new products for scrapbookers. Topics in upcoming episodes will include: Pets, Scrapbooking Tools, Seasons and Holidays, Baby, Wedding, and Scrapbooking Gadgets, just to name a few. All of the shows will be technique driven; therefore instead of teaching how to create a specific layout, they will teach scrapbookers useful techniques that they can incorporate on any page in their albums.
Given the broad range of topics that the show will address I was also curious what level of scrapbooker would benefit from the show. Do the episodes focus on advanced scrapbooking techniques, or on projects that every scrapbooker could easily complete? To this, Sandi replied that the difference between an "advanced" technique and a "basic" one is really just the number of steps involved in being able to complete the project. The series of steps makes all the projects possible for any scrapbooker willing to take the time to complete more steps.
What makes this series especially unique and beneficial for scrapbookers? DIY is "truly interactive television." Scrapbookers may visit DIYnet.com beforehand to download step-by-step project sheets so that they can follow along with each episode. Even if the DIY Network is not available in their area, scrapbookers will find complete project sheets and instruction on the web site.
