The Sun:

The sun is created with scraps of printed yellow paper. A small dot paper was used for the rays and a cute yellow gingham was used for the circle center of the sun.

Time Saving Tip: When following the pattern, remember that you can use your circle cutter or a circle punch to make the center of this sun. Click here to see the sun in greater detail.

Umbrella and Towel:

Once again patterned paper adds fun detail to these pieces. Any of the parts of this pattern can be created using solid colors, but if you are feeling adventurous and have a good supply of scrap paper, pick out some patterns. The umbrella is three layers. The bottom layer is created from a black or navy solid cardstock. On top of this piece a similar white layer is added. And then lastly, you add the colored sections on top of the white layer. The towel is one piece with two strips added on top for detail.

Time Saving Tip: The pole for the umbrella and the stripes on the towel can be cut with out using the pattern and then sized to fit when you are gluing the piece together. Click here to view the sample.

Pail and Shovel:

The pail and shovel are simple pieces to put together; however the pen work will make all the difference. By adding a small amount of detail to the pieces you will define their shape. Be sure to click here to see the samples close up to get an idea of how to detail them.

Sand Castle:

The sand castle in the sample is created from the same color cardstock as the sand. Therefore, to make it stand out you will need to embellish it. The castle on this layout has been detailed with chalks. Notice where you will have your sun on the page and create a dark shadowed side on your castle with brown chalk. On the sample, the right side of each castle section has been shaded more darkly. The left sides were chalked with a lighter color. Pen work, then, helps to make the castle "pop" from the page even further. See sample by clicking here.

Finishing Up:

The lettering was created by printing the title on the back side of yellow cardstock using the "chunky block" lettering from Creating Keepsakes' The Best of Creative Lettering Combo

Time Saving Tip: The title could also be created using yellow letter stickers.

The sand was torn from tan cardstock. Two layers were used and the rough edges were chalked for further detail. The water was cut free-hand from a royal blue solid cardstock. All of the pieces were then adhered to a sheet of light blue background cardstock.
