Cutting Out the Pieces

The next step is to use the template pieces to cut your photos to size. I used two methods with equal success. First, you can use a photo marking pencil (which will wipe off of your photos with a tissue or soft cloth) to trace the templates onto the various pictures you have chosen. Then, you very carefully cut on the traced lines. The main benefit of this method is that after you trace and before you cut you have the opportunity to see exactly which part of the photo will be in the piece and change it if you need to.  The second method is to simply hold the pattern piece on the photo and cut around it. The main advantage with this method is speed. Regardless of how you choose to transfer the patterns and cut the photos, you need to be very careful to cut straight lines keeping the cut photos the same size as the pattern pieces. This will keep you from being frustrated when you try to assemble the pieces of your pattern.
