Word Borders for Your Scrapbooks |
I was recently helping a friend scrap her pictures from her recent trip to Disney World with her family. We wanted to get this album done in a week, while still making it special. We decided on a simple format album which included: a Title page, Table of contents, and Chapters for each major highlight of the trip. To separate the chapters we decided on a special page at the beginning of each one. This tag boarder is a fun and versatile way to create completely different looks while tying them together with the same technique.
Directions For Making a Word Border
Step 1: Choose Colors that match your theme. For example, the colors we chose for "Pooh" were orange, tan, and brown.
Step 2: Cut a 2" strip for the background of your border.
Step 3: Choose 2 or 3 fun fonts and print 7 to 8 words or phrases that convey the theme of the border you want to create. Print on cardstock.

Step 4: Cut phrases and words out of the cardstock into tag shapes.
Creating the Tag Shape - Using the Whale of a Punch: To make these tags there are a variety of methods. Some of my favorites are the Trace-a-Tag templates, and the Whale of a Punch tag punches by EK Success. When using the punches turn your punch upside down so the word is visible in the punch.

After punching out a tag shape with the Whale of a Punch, make the hole in the tag for some fiber accents by following these tips. 1) Mark the placement with a pencil dot. 2) Use a hole punch upside down lining it up over the dot. 3) Add your fibers or ribbons.

Creating the Tag Shape - Using the Trace-a-Tag Templates: Tags made using the Trace-a-Tag templates can be a variety of sizes. If you need a tag to be longer than the template allows, follow these simple steps: 1) Trace one end of the tag shape around the word or phrase. 2) Slide the tag template over as needed and continue tracing the shape to create an elongated tag. 3) Cut out the tags. Mat as many of the tags as desired.

Tip: Save time and add interest to your border by NOT matting every tag. You can also move this project along more quickly by cutting some of the words or phrases into rectangles. See samples for more ideas.
Step 5: Layout tags and adhere to border.

Tip: This same border idea can be used for any page theme. Some other suggestions are: Beach, Friends, Family, Birthday Party, or Zoo Trip pages.
