Part I: Getting Started
Article and Books Samples by Michelle Legault from Simply Memories

Why Create A Mini Scrapbook?

1. It is a great way to get your feet wet as a scrapbooker. Buy just what you need to complete the mini scrapbook and feel a sense of accomplishment for completing the whole scrapbook, rather than feeling overwhelmed by a large one.

2. It is portable, easy to share and you can display it anywhere.

3. They make great gifts - for family, friends, teachers, co-workers and more.

4. Some topics just don’t fit into your traditional scrapbook albums or would work better in their own album. Why not have more than one scrapbook and celebrate the special moments in life with a scrapbook of its own.

5. Some things are so special they deserve a special scrapbook.

Getting Started:

When trying to choose a topic for a mini album about look the special days marked on your calendar. This may help you find something you want to remember with the gift of a scrapbook.

Choose Your Photos - Choose photos based on the theme of your scrapbook and the type of gift project that you are creating. If you are making a small scale scrapbook, you will need to choose your photos accordingly.

Use only the best photos that you have and keep the number of photos small and manageable. You can add many other items that have meaning, such as other memorabilia, journaling and things like quotes, poems and sayings.

Organize your photos before you start and make notes of memories or stories to go with each one. Jot down thoughts and feelings you would like to include in the scrapbook.

Choose Tools and Supplies - The photos and theme you select for your scrapbook project will help determine the paper, embellishments and other accents. You should stick to 2-4 colors, based on your photos and theme.

Consistency and simplicity are important considerations when selecting items for your projects. Be consistent in your design by using the same or similar styled page accents. This will create a unified look and help carry the theme through your scrapbook.

Keep page design simple. If you use elaborate techniques your book will look cluttered and it will take away from the photos and memories. Keep in mind that you are scrapbooking on a smaller scale and your photos and journaling are much smaller.

Assemble - You are now ready to put together your scrapbook project. The key to putting it all together quickly and easily is organization. Once you have a theme and have chosen your supplies and photos, it should be easy and fun to assemble your gift scrapbook.

Start with the cover or title page. Let this page dictate the color and design for the rest of the project. You can make the cover more embellished and ornate if you wish, but the basic design and color principals should remain constant throughout the album.

Choose an arrangement and order for your scrapbook project and decide what photos and journaling you would like to put where.

Finally, create a repetitive design and let this guide the placement of items in your project. You don’t need to have every page look exactly same, but some consistency will tie everything together. Remember, simplicity.
