Scrapbooking On The Wall: Russia

Decorate Your Home with Your Best Scrapbook Projects
Project by Rebecca Ludens

Rebecca started with an Old World feel by using crackle medium when painting her canvas. She added self-adhesive fabrics and decorative brads to make a family memento of an important trip.

Materials:

  • One 12" x 16" Canvas
  • Acrylic Paint (Dark Chocolate, Buttermilk) - DecoArt
  • Crackle Medium - Delta
  • Cardstock (Sage, Speckled Gold) - DMD
  • Printed Paper - #0553 Map - Design Originals
  • Adhesive (GlueDots, Photo Tape - 3L)
  • Self Adhesive Fabric Swatches- Burgundy and Striped - Making Memories
  • Antique Copper Decorative Brads - Making Memories
  • Metal Letters - Colorbok
  • Labels - Dymo Label Maker with Black Tape

Instructions:

1. Paint two smooth coats of Dark Chocolate on the canvas to get complete coverage. Let dry.
2. Paint a thin coat of Crackle medium over the Chocolate paint, allow to dry until just tacky (following manufacturer's instructions on the label).
3. Paint an even coat of Buttermilk paint over the Crackle medium. Follow directions on label which include doing smooth strokes in only one direction and not going over a spot more than once. Let dry.
4. Place large pieces of cardstock on the canvas along with the printed map paper as a colorblocked background. Adhere with photo tape.
5. Cover bottom 1/3 of the canvas with the self adhesive fabrics, allowing about an inch of the striped fabric to show above the burgundy.
6. Position photos and adhere to canvas.
7. Print journaling/labeling on Label Maker tape. Adhere to canvas.
8. Attach decorative brads by first using pliers to pull the backs off of them and then adhering just the tops with GlueDots to the canvas.
9. Attach flat metal letters with GlueDots to the canvas.

Close up: Note the decorative brads, metal letters, and crackle finished canvas.
