Cool New Patterns

It’s stylish! It’s hip! It’s fresh! The new patterned paper featuring geometric designs can also be tricky to use.
No matter what color group you are working with, you can easily find coordinated geometric patterned paper that works well in your layout. But while the colors are beautiful and the patterns alluring, be careful not to let the paper upstage your photos. Here are three expert tips for using geometric patterns in the same color family for a successful look:

Precious Sole
Materials: patterned paper (Stampin’ Up) + mesh paper (Magenta)
+ fibers (Rub-a-dub) + tag (Avery) + page by Amy Stulz

Design Tip #1
Proportion is important. When using two geometric patterns, don’t use equal amounts. One pattern should dominate, and the second should be used to accent the main pattern.

Grandma's Garden
Materials: patterned paper (American Crafts) + flower punch (EK Success)
+ eyelets + page by Sarah Champion

Design Tip #2
Don’t worry about staying inside the lines—place your photos and elements “outside the box” for a lively, dynamic page.

Camping
Materials: patterned paper and letter stickers (SEI) + page by Sara Tanner

Design Tip #3
Rounded lines work well with straight lines. Combine two different shapes, one with angular lines and one with curving lines, to create an excellent page.
