Page Layout Ideas From the Forum

Scrapbooking the Events of September 11, 2001: Ideas from About Scrapbooking Forum Members

From Sarah: "I kept a scrapbook throughout the Gulf War - I was in High School at the time - and just kept newspaper clippings, photos clipped from the paper, etc. I think for this, I may download some photos from the internet, Clip some photos from the paper, print off a few articles, and do a lot of journaling. Do the page in red, white, and blue with flag stickers, eagle stickers, and whatnot."  Complete Message

From Petra (from Australia): "I have downloaded some pictures from CNN and the chronology of events. On the right hand side of the album I am going to write how it impacted on my family and mount it simply on black in the centre of the page. On the left hand side I am going to centre the chronology of events framed with a montage of the pictures.
I want my children to be able to look back on the moment the Western world changed and read their (and my) thoughts on it. Complete Message

From Amie: "I'm going to try to do some sort of accent (piecing, etc.) of a flag at half-mast, but still waving proudly. Also, I'll be buying a bit of red, white and blue ribbon to wear tomorrow, and for probably a while after that. No doubt it will find its way onto the pages. Those two things will probably be the only adornments. I've already written out my account of the entire day as we experienced it and that, along with a few news clippings, etc. will be part of the layout. My page background will be black, because it was a black day indeed, but all matting, etc. will be red, white and blue, because I have no doubt that we will come through this together as a nation with our colors flying and our heads held high." From Francine: "I was thinking of pp the New York skyline before the attack on a flag background, then doing a lot of journaling about my feelings, the way the nation is united together, other country's reactions and showings of support on white cardstock matted with a simple red mat." From Natalia: "I think it's definitely a personal preference how you decide to put this in your book.  I opted for no pictures, as they would only depress me.  On Tuesday night, I took the time to write (by hand) a one page summary of the events and my feelings.  My dh has promised that he will also write one page to use as the facing page in our scrapbook.  The only adornment is a PP yellow rose, with the caption "In Memory" underneath the caption I'm planning on writing the total number of dead when we find out." From Aeron: "I intend to go back now and do a whole 2001 scrapbook just of news and such for my son to be separate from his baby album.  I intend to title it something like "The Year You Were Born" and include large news events, trends,  fashions, music, TV and the like.  This will probably be the biggest spread as it is the biggest thing to happen in MY lifetime and I would love for Michael to be able to go back someday and see how the world was during his infancy and how it affected the people who were in his life.  For each event and other things, I intend to journal my thoughts on it and how it did/didn't affect our lives." From Melissa: "I think journaling is of utmost importance to this page. How you felt, how others in the world reacted and things like that. I'm hoping to journal my feelings in the next day or two. Right now they are still very raw. It may help me to write down how I feel right now. That's what will be meaningful to our children. I will also include copies of the local newspaper headlines on my pages when I do them. I want to do the page on a black background and will include an American flag because that is how I am remembering this horrible tragedy - the pride of our country! I'm still unsure about how I will do these pages but will include them in my family album. I can't think of anything that has changed my life in such a profound way before." Complete Message
