Folding the Rose
by Rebecca Ludens for About.com Scrapbooking

Step One:

Begin by cutting a 2" square of paper from acid-free scrapbook paper, not cardstock.

Step Two:

Fold the square exactly in half and crease the fold well; reopen paper.

Step Three:

Fold the square in half the other direction and crease well; open.

Step Four:

Fold the square in half diagonally, crease well; open.

Step Five:

Fold the square in half diagonally the opposite direction, crease well; do not open.

Step 6:

After folding the paper in half diagonally the second time you should now have a triangle. Holding the folded points of the triangle between each of your thumbs and index fingers push the points towards each other, creating a plus sign from the paper if now viewed from above.

Step 7:

Flatten this shape to create a new smaller triangle, that had two "wings" on each side.

Step 8:

Fold one "wing" over to the left-hand side of the triangle leaving only one on the right.

Step 9:

Fold the remaining triangle point (wing) up to the top point of the triangle. Bring wing that you had sent over to the left back to the right.

Step 10:

Fold one "wing" over to the right-hand side of the triangle leaving only one on the left.

Step 11:

Fold the remaining triangle point (wing) up to the top point of the triangle. Bring wing that you had sent over to the right back to the left.

Step 12:

Fold each of the two remaining triangle points towards the top of the triangle, bringing them only about 2/3 of the way up to the top. This gives you the completed rose. Embellish by adding a stem and use to decorate your page as you wish. Return to the feature article to see the rose trellis on the sample page.
