Using Pressed Flowers on Scrapbook Pages - More Techniques

From Rebecca Ludens, About.com

Experimenting led to what turned out to be Alison's favorite ways to use pressed flowers.

More Flower Techniques

Alison Perra
Alison loves embedding and forever preserving these delicate beauties in Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel, hot glue, and melted wax. Each method creates a different, but equally appealing look.

Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel

The first image with a blue background is how a flower looks embedded in UTEE. Alison applied brilliant blue ink to white paper, then poured UTEE on the ink and melted it with a heat gun. When the UTEE was fully melted, she carefully placed a flower on it and poured more UTEE on top of it. I melted the top layer of UTEE from the underside of the paper so that the UTEE crystals wouldn’t fly everywhere in the process. After the UTEE had dried and hardened, she cut it into a mosaic tile. It has a very smooth and glossy finish, much like glass.

Hot Glue

The next images show the look that can be achieved when using a hot glue gun with pressed flowers. For this technique, Alison squeezed a small pool of hot glue from the hot glue gun, placed a flower on the glue, and covered the flower with another thin layer of hot glue. It reminds me of a flower preserved in tree sap.

Melted Wax

For a slightly different look, you can also seal pressed flowers in melted wax. To make this look, follow the same directions used to make the hot glue embellishments, only using melted wax instead.

Page Pebbles

Tiny blooms can be placed beneath page pebbles for yet another pretty embellishment. This was the quickest way to make pressed flowers into embellishments.

Slide Mount

Another very simple way to make flowers into embellishments is to lay the flowers between pieces of transparency plastic and then place them beneath a slide mount. This technique creates a classic and uncomplicated look.

Watch Crystals

Using watch crystals is another way to incorporate pressed flowers into your layouts. Watch crystals are especially handy for flowers that are not completely flat. If your flower sticks up more than is desired, cover it with a watch crystal to keep it from getting crushed in your album.
