Flowers are one of the most popular embellishments for scrapbook pages. Here on About.com Scrapbooking you can find free paper piecing patterns for flowers and also many, many ideas for creating scrapbook pages that are embellished with flowers. One of the least expensive ways, however, to make flower embellishments for scrapbooking, like those shown in the sample above, is to simply cut out flowers from floral patterned cardstock or scrapbook paper. If you choose a piece of floral print paper from the same designer line as is being used on the rest of your scrapbook page, then you know for sure that your flowers will perfectly match your layout. Here are six more tips to guide you in your search for fabulous, but inexpensive, flower scrapbook page embellishments:
1) Look for Bold Floral Prints - Look for papers that have an abundance of larger flowers in simple designs - simple flowers will be easier to cut out. The sheet of paper that I used is called Diary and it is from the collection called For the Record from The Paper Loft.
2) Find Something with Few Overlaps - As you examine a piece of floral print paper, check to see how many flowers are completely free of other overlapping design. Look for sheets of patterned cardstock that has lots of flowers that could be cut out individually.
3) Use a Nice Pair of Scissors - To cut out flowers from floral print paper, you will need a nice sharp, small pair of scissors. It is difficult to make tiny, precise cuts with a large pair of scissors. Small, fine scissors like the Fiskars Micro-Tip® Scissors or the Cutter Bee® Scissors from EK Success will make it much, much easier to make clean cuts on detailed items such as flowers.
