Jennifer Schmidt created this scrapbook page to feature three photos - one 4x6 inch focal point photo and two 3x4 inch supporting photos. To bring more attention to the focal point photo on a scrapbook page that has a lot of embellishments, Jennifer matted the photo. The background of the page is a simple and quick design. She placed a seven inch wide piece of cardstock across the middle of the page to ground the entire layout. On top of that, she created an "L" shape using two pieces of patterned paper that had each been trimmed to three inches by eight inches. The mats for the knots of jute are each approximately two inch squares. Jennifer used a couple of different fonts with her Sizzix die-cut machine to make the main title words. She finished her title by adding in words with an Epson Label Maker. The result is a title that reads two ways. If you only read the Label Maker title, it says "Taste of Chicago" which was the main event. If you read the Sizzix title it reads "Tall Ships."
Embellishment Technique Idea - Jute Knots: Using natural fibers on scrapbook pages including jute, twine, burlap, small pieces of netting, etc. has been a popular trend in scrapbooking over the last year. More and more companies offer products that you can purchase that are made from these natural fibers. For this scrapbook page, however, Jennifer found some jute in her crafting supplies and decided to try her hand at knot-tying. The three knots are the "Carrick Bend" also known as the Sailor Knot, "Square Knot", and the "Figure Eight". To attach these jute knots to her layout, Jennifer used a tacky liquid craft glue. To attach the border string of jute down the side of the paper, Jennifer simply used a brad as an anchor on each end.
