Scrapbooking gives you the opportunity to use a variety of items to embellish your pages. For this layout, I have combined chipboard, paint, and ribbon to make a unique and textural scrapbook page embellishment. The step by step instructions for making the ribbon covered heart can be found in the article How to Cover Chipboard with Ribbon.
Here in this article, you can see that page in more detail and also save the free sketch to your computer for future scrapbooking.
Three Scrapbook Tips:
Tip 1: Create a Focal Point
As I began working on this page, I decided that I wanted the focal point photo to be in color and the supporting photos to simply be in black and white. I also printed the supporting photos in a much smaller size. By printing them as small black and whites, they remind me of the little strips of pictures that you get in photo booths. Since the girls were being especially silly that day and did not want to pose for a normal picture the photo booth idea made sense. Having only one photo in color also keeps the page from looking too busy with too many colors. Tip 2: Choosing Papers
Also note, that since I knew I was going to be using a lot of different prints and colors of ribbon on the heart embellishment, I chose simple, rustic looking paper patterns. The papers shown here are from the Oxford collection by BasicGrey. These are the "solid" papers that come in the collection. Each of them has a fabulous weathered appearance that went perfectly with the outdoors pictures.
Tip 3: Mixed Title Letters
The set of sticker letters that I wanted to use to make the title on the page only had two of the capital letter "S" so I was not able to spell "SISTERS" all in capitals. There were also only two of the lower case letter "s." Therefore, I mixed upper and lower case so that it would look intentional. I really like how the mixed letter title turned out in the end and am glad that I was not able to spell the word all in capitals.

The journaling on this page is a quote about sisters. It reads:
"She is your mirror, shining back at you with a world of possibilities.
She is your witness, who sees you at your worst and best, and loves you anyway.
She is your partner in crime, your midnight companion, someone who knows when you are smiling, even in the dark." by Barbara Alpert
