For free standing display pieces, Jennifer recommends using wooden planks that are 2 inches thick. The actual measured thickness ends up being about 1 ¾ inches but at the home improvement store you will be looking for 2 inch lumber. The width of the wood is up to you. For 8 inch square scrapbook pages, you will purchase a piece of 2”x8” lumber in whatever length you desire. You will want to carefully measure the width and cut a piece that is that same length to create a square. If you ask at your home improvement store, many places will cut the wood for you, either for free or for a nominal price.
Next, you will sand the wood until all of the edges are nice and smooth. To finish off the wood base, you may want to stain it and even seal it if you wish. Instead of staining, you could use your scrapbooking or rubber stamping ink pads to ink the edges of the wood for a custom look.
