Top 5 Scrapbooking Searches of 2012

By

Thousands of people come to About.com Scrapbooking everyday, but not all of them are scrapbookers. What were the top 5 things that people searched for in 2012 that brought them to About.com Scrapbooking to find their answers? You might be surprised. Both the searches and the articles or sections of the site that contained the answers are listed below.

1. Speech Bubbles

Rebecca Ludens
The fact that "Speech Bubbles" stays so high in searches is definitely a surprise to me. But it is true that here on About.com Scrapbooking, we have a gallery of free speech bubbles that can be saved to your computer. They can be printed for use as journaling boxes on traditional paper scrapbook pages or used as patterns to create speech bubble shapes from patterns papers, chipboard, or colored cardstock. This gallery contains six different designs ranging from your standard, oval-shaped bubble to the typical, comic super-hero "pow" (shown here).

Some of my other favorite journaling boxes here on About.com are the 7 Free Shaped Journaling Boxes with Writing Lines. This collection allows you to easily add hand-written journaling to your scrapbook pages with the guidance of lined paper. Print out one or more of these shapes on colored cardstock or even subtly patterned paper for use on your next scrapbook page layout.

2. Printable Block Letters

Rebecca Ludens
Letters that you can print out on cardstock and cut out for your scrapbook pages are always popular on About.com Scrapbooking. They are a terrific free resource for making titles and sub-titles for your scrapbook pages. We have several sets of printable block letters available on this site, including: 2 Sets of Printable Block Letters, Learn to Make Your Own Printable Block Letters Using Word Art, and Free Reversed Block Letters, Numbers, and Symbols for Making Scrapbook Page Titles.

3. Scrapbooking Page Ideas, Designs, or Layouts

It is no surprise that "Scrapbooking Ideas" is one of the top searches that brings people to About.com Scrapbooking each year and 2012 was no exception. There are thousands of scrapbook page ideas to be found here on nearly every topic imaginable. To get started you will want to peruse the main listing - Scrapbook Page Ideas. From there you will be able to choose scrapbook page ideas for wedding albums, baby themed pages, teen scrapbook page ideas, vacation albums, and so much more.

4. Free Flower Patterns

Flowers are always popular in scrapbooking, card making, and also in general paper crafting. You can make flowers from string, ribbon, strips of paper, torn paper, and so much more. Here on About.com Scrapbooking one of my favorite galleries is 7 Free Printable Flower Patterns and Free Scrapbook Page Sketches. You could easily complete an entire album using just these patterns and sketches alone. Another "not to be missed article" is the collection of all of the DIY flower articles called 12 Ways to Make Flowers for Scrapbooking and Card Making.

5. How to Scrapbook

Rebecca Ludens
And finally, rounding out the Top 5 Searches in 2012, is "How to Scrapbook." Here on About.com Scrapbooking, you can find articles to help you with every aspect of getting started scrapbooking. To get started you will want to read about What Supplies You Will Need. Then, you can move on to How To Create Your Very First Scrapbook Page. Once you have your first page in your album, then then you can start learning more techniques. Some basics like How to Mat a Photo and How to Tear Paper would be a good place to start. And then, perhaps, you will also want to try your hand at Digital Scrapbooking.
