Scrapbooking is a part of a new rising trend in event planning - photo booths with scrapbook services. In a 2011 episode of FOX's new hit show New Girl, titled The Wedding, one the show's main characters, Nick, spends a good deal of the evening hiding out in the photo booth at a wedding reception. The show highlights the trend of photo booths becoming more and more prominent at wedding receptions and parties. As this trend is on the rise, a new aspect is "cropping" up along with it. Many of the companies that rent out photo booths for events are now also offering scrapbooking services. Some vendors offer digital scrapbook services where the photos from the booth taken throughout the night are stored digitally and a book is created and shipped after the event. Other vendors offer attendants who help guests with the photo booth and also create scrapbook pages on-site using photos as they are printed. By making the scrapbook pages as the pictures are printed, guests may be given the opportunity to select a page style and/or write comments, thoughts, and memories to share with the recipients of the scrapbook.
Seeing It in Action
I recently had the opportunity to visit an event that had both photo booth and scrapbook services. Silver Beach Carousel Society gives its clients the opportunity to rent a ballroom, the carousel room, photo booth and scrapbooking services, and even cotton candy and popcorn machines. When I stopped by they were hosting an employee appreciation night with a red and black theme. Wayne and Dianne Metcalf were running the photo booth and scrapbook table. Wayne helped the guests with the photo booth, showing them a variety of props (including feather boas, half-masks, and fun hats) that they could use. Dianne had pre-made fabulously festive scrapbook pages that matched the theme of the party using beautiful patterned papers, stickers, self-adhesive gems, and many more embellishments. Guests were able to keep one strip of photos from the booth, and they turned in one strip at the scrapbook table where they added their thoughts and signatures to the scrapbook pages that Dianne had created. Carla Sykora of the Silver Beach Carousel Society told me, "The photo booth and scrapbook service rental is fun. All ages can enjoy it. You saw adults having fun; kids at weddings have a great time with it also. It's a source of entertainment, keeping people moving around and interacting." The best part of the rental is that at the end of the night a scrapbook is given to the hosts that will remind them of the special party for years and years to come.
Weddings are the most obvious place that photo booths and scrapbooking services are turning up. Many other events are also including this add-on. Birthdays, quinceañeras, anniversary parties, company parties, bat-mitzvahs or bar-mitzvahs are just a few of the types of gatherings that are renting photo booth/scrapbooking services.
The Cost and Finding a Rental Company
Silver Beach's prices are extremely reasonable at $350 for two hours of photo booth and scrapbooking. Other vendors' prices can cost as much as $600 or more, depending on the location and type of booth.
Next time you rent a location for a party do an online search for photo booth rentals in your area, or check with the place that you are renting to see if they know where you can find photo booth services near you. Also be sure to check with the photo booth rental companies to see if they offer a scrapbooking service in conjunction with the book rental.
